Let sleeping dogs lie
There's no need to wake.
So many times
So many nights.
Pull the covers over.
Turn out the light.
Close the door.
And drive away.
Like so many lovers.
I don't want a fight.
I'm smarter than that.
To stir up old wounds
That weren't even mine.
It had nothing to do with me.
So I creep out the door.
But leave it unlocked.
For someone else
To stumble in.
Maybe their wounds
Will be your wounds
And you can share a secret.
And you can share scars.
Who hurt who more?
Because this time.
You'll be happy.
A passer-by, a witness,
A spectator.
